Peter Yee (Youjang)
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Peter Yee (Youjang) on Saturday, March 26th, 2016 at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw, SK. Peter, at the age of 88 years, is survived by his loving wife, Alice Yee and his children: Tim (Nancy), Danny (Dorothy), Linda, David (Kathleen) and Kelly; grandchildren: Sagan, Taylor-Anne, Michael, Nicholas, Esmé, Kendra and Rhea; step-grandchildren: Rueben (Aimee), Wesley (Lissa) and Chelsa; three step-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, twin brother and two sisters. Peter arrived to Canada in 1950 to join his father who arrived earlier and settled in British Columbia. After a short stay, they relocated to Regina, SK and began employment at the W.K. Restaurant in 1953. Peter went back to Hong Kong that year where he married his loving wife of 62 years, Alice. Upon arriving back in Canada, Peter and his father opened a restaurant and rooming house in Mossbank, SK. Peter became a regular fixture in the small community and began to raise his family. Mossbank paid tribute to Peter and Alice when the community celebrated its 100 year anniversary. In 1957, Peter moved the family to Moose Jaw and bought a corner grocery store located near Peacock High School. Peter began a long-standing business that was well-loved by all those who came through the doors. During those working years, he became an active and supportive member in the Chinese community and held various positions. He was known for his strong work ethic and life revolved around work, family, friends and community. In 1995, he retired after serving a generation of young and old customers for 39 years. Upon entering retirement, his love for socializing and engaging in various conversations about local, provincial and federal affairs, especially in the areas of business, did not end. He had a regular daily routine with his coffee buddies at McDonald’s. At home, he immersed himself with two of his favourite hobbies, Chinese calligraphy and reading Chinese history. Peter was a quiet, calm, gentle and wise man. He will be missed by all who knew him. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 1st, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Todd Sjoberg, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
