Sydney Thomas Woodrow
Sydney Thomas Woodrow, born in Moose Jaw, SK on April 8th, 1917 and passed away June 29th, 2013 of natural causes at the age of 96 years. Sydney was predeceased by his brother, Les and son, Dwight. Sydney is survived by his wife, Darlene and children: Kay, Dianne, Jim, Linda, Les, Bob, Don and Ken; their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a young boy Sydney attended Spicer School with his brother Les and was the second generation to attend this school, which was located one mile east from the family farm that he grew up on. Syd was very musical and as a young man he helped form a band and they travelled and played for small towns. As Sydney got older he entered the reserve as a training sergeant in Dundurn, Saskatchewan, where he trained soldiers to go to war. A happy time for Sydney was in 1948 where he met his wife Darlene and they spent the next 65 years together raising their blended family. They very much enjoyed going to dances together and travelling to Hawaii for many winters. Sydney’s favorite place to be was on the farm. He spent many years operating it while he worked as a journeyman’s tin smith at Baylis Plumbing and Heating and then as time went on he passed the operation off to his son, however he would still come out every spring and fall to work. Sydney also enjoyed flying his plane in his younger years. He entered into a partnership called Airspray Services with Gordon Francis and Don Hamilton and they spent many days spraying farmer’s fields and travelling. In the 50s Sydney purchased property at Buffalo Pound Lake that he enjoyed for many years with his family and their families. The Royal Canadian Legion was very important to Sydney. He was a member for over 50 years where he served on the Executive, building committee and the social committee. He had a huge part in the rebuild from the Flood of 1974. Syd and Darlene enjoyed attending many functions at the legion and did so for many years. Sydney continued farming into his 90’s, as well he worked for Bob Busse’s Plumbing and Heating until the age of 91. He was a very hard worker however he managed to create a special relationship with each individual of his family. He was very proud of his family name and passed that pride on to his family. A Celebration of Sydney’s Life will be held on Sunday, July 7th, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Glenys Grosenick will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery.
