James Robert “Bob” Wood
James Robert “Bob” Wood passed away peacefully in Moose Jaw, SK on Thursday, May 17th, 2018 at the age of 80 years. Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Myrna (Whitehead); daughter, Julie (Paul), Stefan and Kieran; son, Garth (Luly) and Alec; 6 sisters and 1 brother; sisters and brothers-in-law; an aunt and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob was born on September 20th, 1937 in Moose Jaw to Robert Hall and Martha (Greggains) Wood. He graduated from Moose Jaw Technical High School in 1956. Bob married Myrna Whitehead in 1960. In his earlier years Bob was very involved with sports, playing baseball and hockey, as well as broomball and softball. Bob enjoyed his years coaching midget hockey. A lifelong Dodgers fan, Bob managed to build many vacations around trips to a MLB stadium for a ball game or two. He was a Canadiens and Riders fan as well. Bob was a member of the Kinsmen Club and worked tirelessly for numerous band festivals and other community events. His interest turned to building cars and he devoted many hours to this hobby. He always enjoyed the rod runs and the company of his fellow street rodders. True to his name, Bob was an accomplished wood worker. His career at Cushing Millwork spanned fifty years, starting work there after his last day of high school. Many changes were made over the years to the business of which he was very proud, as well as his association with AWMAC. Bob’s grandsons were a source of great pride and he was fortunate to spend lots of time with them playing, visiting, watching their sports, and on vacations. The family would like to thank the wonderfully kind staff at Extendicare for helping care for Bob over the past couple years. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Friday, June 15th, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, with a program to start at 4:30 p.m. Please bring memories to share and car shirts are welcome. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Bob’s name may be made to Kinsmen Telemiracle, 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK S7L 6A8.
