Fernande Marie Wilson
Fernande Marie Wilson lost her battle with cancer on December 15th, 2010, in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Fern was predeceased by her husband, George; parents, Rosalphe and Bertha (Arguin) Gaucher; sister Jeannette (Louis) Laverdiere; brothers Willie Gaucher and Gaston (Irene) Gaucher; in-laws, Billy and Annie Wilson, Jean and Mervin Mainwaring, Maisie and Eldon Anderson, Jim Wilson, Dave and Therese Wilson, Lil Wilson, Bob Johnstone, and Les Marchessault. Fern leaves behind children Thelma (Jim) Caldwell, Ron (Helene) Wilson, Shawna (Darryl) Penna; grandchildren Deny Wilson, Jaime (Andrew) Newton, Wendy Caldwell (Blaine Depper), Shelley Caldwell, Brandi Caldwell (Derek Trumbley), Ryley Wilson, Baylee Penna and Kylee Penna; great-grandchild Isabella Fern Newton; brothers Leon (Eileen) Gaucher, Roland (Elise) Gaucher; sisters Lucienne (Nick) Semesock, Annette (Gary) Boyd, Lorraine (Terry) Woloschuk; in-laws June Gaucher, Mac Wilson, Phyllis Johnstone, June Marchessault; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Fern was born July 1st, 1929 in Coderre, Saskatchewan. She was the fifth of Rosalphe and Bertha Gaucher’s nine children. Fern was only ten years old when her Dad died, leaving her mother to raise the family on her own. Fern married George Wilson in a private ceremony at St. Andrew’s Manse in Moose Jaw on February 12th, 1948. The young couple made their home at the BW Bar Ranch, south east of Coderre, raising cattle and horses. They moved to the town of Coderre in 1955, then to Chaplin in 1959. The next spring, they moved back to Coderre. George and Fern owned the Lucky Dollar Store from 1968-1973. Fern also worked as school janitor from 1964-68 and 1973-79. On May 10th, 1979, George died. Later that year, Fern and Shawna moved into their newly built home, where Fern remained until December, 2001, when she moved to an apartment in Moose Jaw. Fern was an active member of the St. Charles Church choir, the CWL, Legion Auxiliary, Coderre Sunshine Club, and the RM of Rodgers History Book Committee. When Fern wasn’t busy babysitting, she attended soccer games, hockey games, figure skating carnivals, dance recitals, ball games and birthday parties for all her children and grandchildren. Her family prized Fern’s homemade donuts and her knitting and sewing skills. Fern enjoyed bingo, curling, dancing, gardening, puzzles, cards and TV game shows. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Church on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held in Moose Jaw Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 21st, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, SK. S6H 2M2 or to a charity of choice.
