DORITA (DEDE) CATHERINE WHEATLEY
(1937-2011)
It is with deep sorrow that we say goodbye to Dede, Mother, Sister and Grandmother after a short but valiant battle with cancer. Dede left us on June 14th, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband Stan in 2000, her mother Verna de la Hey in 2000 and her father JR de la Hey in 1996. She is survived by her 3 children and 6 grandchildren: Cathy (Gary, Talea and Torrie Coghlin), Doug (Rhonda, Courtney and Derek) and Jan (Greg, Scott (Lindsay Smith) and Stacey (Ryan Skorobohach) Moerike). She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Arthur (Liz) Delahey, Lois Carter, Mavis Byford and Jerrold (Barb) Delahey, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dede worked for many years in the Toy Department of Eatons until its closure. She then became the seamstress at Osborne Cleaners. She loved to sew and knit for both family and friends. In the winter you could find her at the curling rink, playing the game for years and later as the treasurer for the Legion Curling. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at Happy Hours at the Elks and the Legion. Throughout her illness, Dede always had a positive outlook on life and always wore a smile. She carried herself with a quiet dignity that amazed us and made us proud. At Dede’s request, there will be no funeral service and there will be a private interment. Dede has also requested that family and friends join together at the Legion on Friday, June 17th, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. to share memories, laughter and a few tears. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dede’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2M2.
