Joyce Wenman (nee Fowlie)
Joyce Wenman (nee Fowlie) was born at her grandmother’s home in Regina during a dust storm on April 27th, 1934. She left this world at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon, SK and entered Heaven’s gates on Monday, July 8th, 2013. Joyce came from a large family where she was always a loving sibling and daughter. Her first few years were spent on the family farm at Parkbeg, Saskatchewan until her family moved six miles east of Moose Jaw to start a market garden. Joyce discovered her passion for gardening growing up and this started her nurturing nature that was a thread throughout her life. It was this nurturing nature that Joyce had that she shared with her youngest siblings, Elaine and Sandra, and also led her to work at Valley View Centre. It was a trip to California in the early ’70’s with her brother Jim’s family that was a fond memory for her as well as her Scotland trip with her sister Elaine to find the birth place of their father in Ellon Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Joyce’s world was shattered with the loss of her daughter Janice in 1972, but it was her unwavering faith in God that she drew her strength from. As a member of The River Church in Moose Jaw, Joyce held many prayer groups, was church treasurer and made Sunday Service a top priority in her life. She made her commitment to Jesus Christ in the Fall of 1976 and walked with Him for the remainder of her days. Joyce did not just believe in Matthew 22:37, Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” but lived it each and every day. The love of her grandchildren started with the birth of grandson Brett in 1973 followed by his three sisters, Mandi, Shala and Kaylee. All her grandchildren loved Grandma’s laughter, kind ways and supportive nature and it was a special time when Grandma Joyce’s little red Toyota came for a visit. The joy in her mind that her family was growing with the addition of great-grandchildren gave her comfort during her days at Sherbrooke. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff at Sherbrooke these final years. Joyce was predeceased by her father, Alexander Fowlie; mother, Edith Fowlie (nee Sutherland); her daughter, Janice Gay Wenman; sister, Shirley Chalmers; sister, Sheila Rogerson and brother, Jim Fowlie. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Karen Eden and husband Logan of Aberdeen, SK; four grandchildren: Brett (Kayla) Eden, Mandi (Mike) Eden, Shala (Jon) Neufeld and Kaylee Eden; nine great-grandchildren: Tyler, Kyle, Nickolas, Darin, Blaik, Chayton, Alexis, Corwin and Zipporah; sisters, Elaine (Wayne) Benning of Comox, BC and Sandra (Ron) Willie of Red Deer, AB. The Family will greet friends on Friday, July 12th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane, Moose Jaw, SK. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery and a luncheon will be at The River Church, 406 Ominica St. W., Moose Jaw, SK. A Time of Visitation for Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, July 11th, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.
