Hilda “Yvonne” VanTassel
On Thursday, April 6th, 2023, Hilda “Yvonne” VanTassel (née: Gray) passed away peacefully, 108 days after her beloved husband of 66 years, Stanley.
Yvonne was born in Moose Jaw, SK on April 15th, 1938 to Lorna (née: McCord) and Ernest Gray. Throughout school she enjoyed playing basketball for the Central Babe’s and figure skating. Her father would turn the garden into a skating rink when the weather turned cold. The family often laughed at the story of her 6’4” boyfriend Stanley skating with her in the back yard and getting tangled up in the clothesline.
On June 23rd, 1956 Yvonne married Stanley VanTassel at Zion United Church in Moose Jaw. They were married 66 years before Stanley passed away.
Besides caring for home and family, Yvonne enjoyed being outside doing yard work, gardening, camping, and riding her bicycle. The family would often tease her for her favourite activity of riding her bicycle down back alleys checking out the landscapes of yards. She also enjoyed reading, crafting and sewing.
She was predeceased by her parents and 6 siblings. Yvonne is survived by her children, Lenise (Laurie) Mang and Bryan (Candra) VanTassel; grandchildren: Nathan (Sara) Mang, Natasha Mang (David Vranch), Danett VanTassel (Chirage Kumar Patel), Bryce VanTassel, and Karstin VanTassel; great-grandchildren: Charles Mang, Heidi Mang, Callie Siegner, Julia Mang and Kara Siegner; sisters: Irene Ehlie and Patricia (Rick) Mills; and sisters-in-law: Bernice (Cliff) Sandeson and Anna VanTassel.
The family would like to thank the staff of Chez Nous for the wonderful care they provided to Yvonne during the last years of her life and especially the final months. They would also like to thank the staff at Moose Jaw Funeral Home for their help and compassion with laying Yvonne to rest.
A private family service will be planned at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Lenise, Laurie and family…..so sorry to read of your mom’s passing. It has been a very sad few months for you all. One day, the memories will dry the tears, and bring out some smiles.
Thinking of you all…….Love Glennys and Gerry
To the family, my sincerest condolences. Knew them for many years through Legion sports and Lynbrook and remember them as a wonderful couple. Sad that Yvonne has left us but now she can be with Stan once again. Will have special memories of Yvonne, as well as Stan.
Our deepest condolences for the lost of Yvonne and your father Stanley. We had so enjoyed living beside your parents for 25 years. They were both very gracious, kind and most of all the best neighbours one could have. They lived a beautifully rich life together. Now they are together in Heaven. I will missed them both terribly.
Take care,
Lynn and Richard Striha
Bryan,
