He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Catherine Thul; son, Drew; brothers, Gene and Ray; brother-in-law Earle McCartney; sister-in-law Maxine Thul and special cousin Ag Spasoff and her husband Gil. Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Shirley; son, Gary (Gayle) and their sons Ryan and Tyson; son, Wayne (Diane) and their children Chris (Leah), Mark (Jaramie) and Cara; son, Vern (Lori) and their children Kelsey and Brandt; daughter, Lori and her children Shane and Stephanie; daughter, Sheila (Greg Marcyniuk) and their son Matthew; great-grandchildren: Brielle, Kaitlyn, Chayton, Mia, Ryan and Jade; sister, Trudy McCartney; sister-in-law, Beatrice Thul; brother-in-law, Jim (Lee) Nutzhorn; and numerous other relatives. Gordon was born in Tuxford and was raised and attended school in Marquis. After farming a few years he met Shirley and they were married in September 1955. Together they raised six children. His passion was always farming which he did as long as he was able including operating the combine for the 2011 harvest. His love of farming comprised of his own farm as well as custom spraying and combining in both the USA and Canada with brother-in-law Earle and later on his own. He also operated equipment for road maintenance for the R.M. of Marquis for many years. His involvement in the community included village council from 1976 – 1980, then as mayor from 1980 – 2004. He was instrumental in establishing the Marquis New Horizons Senior Center. He was a member of Elks Lodge #7. Throughout his life, Gordon participated in baseball (earning him his nickname “Yogi”), curling, fishing, hunting and spent many evenings playing cards at the New Horizons Center. Cards remained a big part of his life and crib became his favorite game with family. He had a special love for dogs. There were many fun times camping, playing horseshoes at the cabin at Buffalo Pound and attending the Craven Jamboree. Gordon always had a sense of humor which he maintained right up until his passing. He taught through example the value of hard work, the integrity of his word and the importance of honesty.
