Betsy Oakley Tiede

Betsy Oakley Tiede, aged 89 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away Sunday, June 19th, 2016.  She was predeceased by her husband, Eric; sisters, Mima (Lloyd) Goalen and Alison (Eric) Atkinson; and brother, Erland.  Betsy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Donna (Edwin) Ferguson; son, Kevin (Laurie); grandchildren, Nicole (Mark) Marshall and Ryan Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Jace and Brynn; nieces and nephews: Edwina (Wally) Macht, Laurie (Fran) Goalen, Bruce (Lynn) Goalen, Lindsay Atkinson-Smith, Bob, Bill and Mary Ann Tiede.  Betsy was born in Kelso Scotland on Sept 16th, 1926.  She spent her younger years in Scotland until emigrating to Canada (Moose Jaw) in 1948 with her sister Alison and brother-in-law Eric.  She married Eric Tiede in Mossbank, SK on June 17th, 1950.  They farmed near Mossbank where they raised Donna and Kevin.  They moved to Moose Jaw in 1981 and retired from farming in 1982.  They enjoyed many years together creating memories with family and friends.  Betsy was always knitting for herself, friends and family, especially her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren.  Betsy and Eric enjoyed traveling and cruising to many island countries and Europe.  At the time of Eric’s passing in 1996, they had been married for 46 years.  Betsy continued cruising with her good friend Alice Small, visiting many places including South America.  She was an active member of Central Lutheran Church for many years and participated in the choir and ladies group.  Betsy will be remembered for her charm, wit, sense of humor and her shortbread.  The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Extendicare for their care and support for mom over the last few years.  The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 24th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate and interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Betsy’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan Inc, 301 – 2550 – 12th Ave, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or the Allan Blair Cancer Centre c/o Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Ave, Regina, SK S4T 7T1.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Todd Sjoberg, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
