Hazel Josephine Therens

Hazel Josephine Therens, aged 78 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, January 25th, 2016.  Hazel was born on April 25th, 1937 at Milestone, SK.  She lived in Milestone with her family until going to Beautician School in Regina, SK.  She married her childhood friend Nicholas Therens on January 15th, 1955.  They moved to Moose Jaw where they settled and raised their five children.  Hazel was employed by Jean Hanley in 1955 at Connaught Beauty Salon.  She moved to Irene Brown’s Beauty Salon in 1966 and worked there for a number of years.  Hazel then moved on to work for Agnes McDowell at CB Salon.  In 1989, Hazel opened her own Beauty Salon, Lori-Jan Hairstyling, and continued working until her retirement in 1995.  Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, camping, country music and her dog.  She was a long-time member of the Royal Purple and St. Joseph’s CWL.  She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas John Therens, parents, William and Mabel Gates, and sister, Mae.  Hazel will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Paul (Marilyn), Greg (Teri), Janice (Larry) Foy, Lori (Adrien) Gaucher and Jeff (Olga); grandchildren: Amber (Rion) White, Ashley (Curtis) Florent, Nicole Foy, Mark (Jolene) Foy, Tara (Spencer) Davis, Janelle (Brandon) Loveridge, Tristan Gaucher and Kyla (Zane) Vanderhulst; great-grandchildren: Zak, Kaitlyn, Eli, Reid, Logan, Emberley and Zoe.  The family would like to thank the staff of St. Vincent at Providence Place for the excellent care provided during her stay.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 29th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Ave NW, Moose Jaw, SK.  Father Rick Krofchek will be the presiding celebrant and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Hazel’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
