Karen Szumlak
On October 24th, 2012 Karen Szumlak, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away unexpectedly at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Karen was born July 10th, 1955 in Regina, SK. The family moved to Estevan and later to Moose Jaw. Karen spent most of her summers at her grandma and grandpa’s farm in Wapella. When Karen turned 16, she moved to Regina and became a hairdresser. Here she met her husband, Matt Szumlak, with whom she had their two beautiful children, Dawn and Desmond. She later met Rod Foreman. Together they moved to Mission, BC and with Rod and her children, Karen created a life for herself and family. Karen’s zest for life, her quick smile, her sudden laughter and undying loyalty earned her the love of all. She was predeceased by her grandma Michaud; grandma and grandpa McCormick; as well as her soul mate, Rod Foreman. Karen is survived by her parents, Dick and Anne Larkin; her children, Dawn Szumlak and Des (Amanda) Szumlak; their father, Matt Szumlak; brother, Guy (Nancy) Larkin; sisters, Shelly (Lyalle) Davis and Susan (Jim) Elder; grandchildren, Jordyn and Justin Maclean; as well as many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all of the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held on Sunday, October 28th, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Karen’s name may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 9Z9.
