Ila A. Swayn
Ila A. Swayn of the Baildon District, decided to peacefully leave us on Sunday, June 9th, 2013 at the age of 96. Born on the family farm near Parkbeg, SK on December 14th, 1916, she grew up learning the skills needed to raise a family and carry on a lifetime of mixed farming. She had a way with animals and especially a passion for horses. Shortly after marrying Victor Swayn in 1944, they purchased a farm in the Baildon District south of Moose Jaw, SK. That was home for the rest of her 96 years. She was raking leaves out of her flower beds a month ago. Ila was predeceased by her husband, Vic in 2004; parents, Chester and Ada McCulloch; brother, Thomas Arthur McCulloch; sister, Dorothy Lane; and granddaughters, Lisa Swayn and Lori Swayn. She has now “turned the reins over to” her sons, Ross (Marie) of Moose Jaw and David (Janet) of Parkview Hamlet Buffalo Pound Lake; grandchildren: Tammy, Daniel, Bryan, Lisa and Jeff; special granddaughter, Shauna; and great-grandchildren: David, Bailey, T’Neal and Kylee. She passes on the heart and courage of a lioness. Ila and Vic enjoyed visiting and traveling with many relatives and friends. Too many young people to mention were touched by their care and kindness. A big thank you goes out to all the neighbours that lent a hand to help with her determination to stay on the beloved family farm. The care and comfort she received from the nurses will never be forgotten. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 15th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate and interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. She was proud of those that stand on guard for us. Memorial donations may be made in Ila’s name to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59, 268 High St. W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1S8. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director. 306-693-4550.
