BURDETTE CARL MARSHALL SWANSON
Bert passed away peacefully at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw, SK on Thursday, June 21st, 2018 at the age of 93 years. He was born January 30th, 1925 in Warroad, MN. Burdette was the eldest child of Reckard and Gertie Swanson. He grew up in the farming communities of Lake Valley, Brownlee and Keeler, SK. As a youngster, Bert enjoyed playing baseball and hockey with the local teams. After his schooling, he worked at various jobs ranging from mining in BC to Campbells Soup in Toronto, ON. In 1948 Bert married Freda Wilson, and they began to raise their family of 6 children on their farm south of Brownlee. Bert was active in the Lake Valley, Brownlee and Rowletta communities. In the 1970’s, Bert found his passion and joined the Moose Jaw Shrine Club. He took pride in his role as a member of the Oriental Band which performed in parades, at conventions and acted as volunteers at various Shrine events. The supporting of children’s charities was very important to him. Bert loved being on the water and every day was a great day for fishing. While being outdoors, be it hunting, fishing or searching for arrowheads, Bert was in his element.
