Fern Marion Stewart

Fern Marion Stewart, aged 84 years of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on Wednesday, January 31st, 2018.  Fern was born April 9th, 1933 on her Grandpa Garner’s farm in the Baildon area to Morgan and Pearl (Garner) Lewis.  She married the love of her life, John Stewart, on March 3rd, 1951.  They were together for over 46 years when he passed away on January 2nd, 1998.  They had 3 children: Ken, Bob, and Linda.  Fern was first and foremost a mother and homemaker, but worked for several years at St. Anthony’s Home as a dietary aide and nurses assistant.  Fern loved curling and golf, and was a member of the ACTette’s and also the Hillcrest 9 Hole Ladies golf group for several years.  She and John spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona where they made lots of new friends.  Fern enjoyed travelling with her daughter to Hawaii, Ontario, Quebec, Iowa, and many cruises throughout the Caribbean.  She developed a love of all things Disney after several trips to Disneyworld.  She was predeceased by her parents, Morgan and Pearl (Garner) Lewis; step-mother, Laura (Chelsberg) Lewis; husband, John Stewart; son, Ken Stewart and his wife Patricia (Williams) Stewart; brother, Lawrence Steele; and sister-in-law, Linda (Boys) Lewis.  Fern is survived by her daughter, Linda Stewart of Moose Jaw, SK; grandson (Ken’s son), Michael Stewart and his children Hope and Levi of Regina, SK; son, Bob (Cindy) Stewart; grandson, Chris (Shana) and his children Brady and Riley; granddaughter, Jennifer (Mike Burgess) and her children Parker and Mikayla, and stepson, Kaden Burgess, all of Saskatoon, SK.  She will also be missed by her brothers: Hartford (Phyllis) Lewis of Moose Jaw, Ralph (Sophie) Lewis of Manning, AB, and Ray (Helen) Steele of Swift Current, SK; and sister-in-law, Ann Steele of Calgary, Ab; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Many thanks to Dr. Konkin, Dr. Ahmad, and the nurses and staff at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their help and caring for Fern and her family during her final days.  The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 9th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Dave Foley will officiate and interment will take place in Rosedale Cemetery at a later date.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Fern’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
