Richard Edward (Dick) Springett
Richard Edward (Dick) Springett passed away peacefully at Extendicare on Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at the age of 88 years. Dick was born on September 19th, 1926 in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan. He married Margaret McEwen in 1953. He was predeceased by his parents, Honor and Ted Springett; brothers, Chester and Happy; sisters: Hazel, Elsie and Pearl; and by two nephews, Bruce Black and Bob Prior. Dick is survived by his wife, Margaret; sister, Kay Parker; as well as several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special grandchildren: Riak, Ayen, Akuol and Paul along with their parents, Rebecca and Moses Riak. He will also be missed by his good friend and co-worker, Gord Spearman. Dick worked in the furniture retail trade for more than 40 years, beginning his career at the Bellamy Furniture Company. Dick was a dedicated volunteer. He devoted time and energy to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. John’s Anglican Church, Central Lutheran Church, the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal and the Kettle Campaign. He was Santa for the Multicultural Council in Moose Jaw for almost 20 years. In 2005 Dick was awarded the Sask. Centennial Medal. Dick enjoyed tending the flowers at Extendicare. Special thanks are extended to the exceptional caring staff of Extendicare who cared for Dick these past 3 years, as if he were family and made his life as loving and comfortable as possible. We all loved him and he will be missed very much. As requested, there will be no Funeral Service and a private memorialization has taken place. Donations to Central Lutheran Church, 27 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2E9, Extendicare Moose Jaw Family Support Group, 1151 Coteau St W, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 5G5 or to a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
