Gerald (Gerry) Spinney
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Gerald (Gerry) Spinney at his home in Moose Jaw, SK. Gerald left us on Thursday, February 22nd, 2018 at the age of 89 years. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Anna Spinney (née Fortin) on January 18th of this year; his parents, Caleb and Laura Spinney; and his sister, Marina Christensen. Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law, Del Christensen; sisters-in-law, Janet Bach and Elaine Fortin; as well as many nieces and nephews. Gerald was born in Greenwood, Nova Scotia on February 28th, 1928. As a young man he came to Moose Jaw in 1952 to further his career in flying, which included instructing at the flight ground school at West Air Aviation. While in Moose Jaw he met the love of his life, Anna, and they were married in 1953. Gerry was a commercial pilot for over thirty years. His last flight was in 1988 as Captain of a Boeing 737, working for Canadian Airlines in Montreal. His career took him to live in seven provinces across Canada. Gerry enjoyed travelling, dancing, camping, visiting with friends, and attending family gatherings. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 2nd, 2018 at 2:00 pm in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerald’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation Saskatchewan, Unit 26 – 1730 Quebec Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9.
