Stanley Charles Spidla
Stanley Charles Spidla, aged 94 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7th, 2014. He was just seven weeks shy of his 95th birthday, born on November 27th, 1919 in Glenside, SK. Stan was proud to be a Legion member and served as a Sergeant in the Canadian Army during WWII. Stan bought his farm in the Mazenod – Limerick region in 1946, where he continued to farm alongside his son until the age of 85. He demonstrated the same passion and pride that he had for farming with gardening, curling and watching football. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith (2007); his parents, Joseph Sr. and Sofie (1975); and his siblings, Rose Shimshaw (1981) and Joseph (2010). Stan is survived by his daughter, Shirley Ann; son, Dennis (Brenda); grandchildren: Nadine (Marc), Kelly (Brent), Kerri (Brad) and Jamie; great-grandchildren: Shay, Reece, Ella and Evan; as well as sister-in-law Winnifred and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those that cared for Stan, particularly the Home Care workers and the Five Hills Health Region, who provided the support for him to live comfortably in his own home. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 18th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Reverend Doug Hallman will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery.
