Carol Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mom and grandma.  Carol passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Friday, September 24th, 2010.  Carol is survived by her husband Fred “Smitty” Smith; mother Olive Nant; son Trevor (Leanne) Smith; daughter Julie (David) Nykiforuk and her cherished grandchildren Sarah, Benjamin, and Elena; brother Ed (Ilona) Nant; niece Shannon (Mel) Drake and their children; nephew Shawn (Jennifer) Nant and their children.  Carol is predeceased by her grandmother Lena “G. G.” Hanson; and her father Earl Nant.  Carol was a devoted wife and mom and we will miss her so very much.  Everyone knew her as a “hyper-organizer” who loved to plan get-togethers with the SIAST (STI) crew, her Palliser Heights “Lady Friends” and the “Mesa Nuts”.  Carol taught in Saskatchewan for thirty years and was very active in the Council for Exceptional Children.  Because mom spent her career advocating for children with special needs, we gratefully decline flowers in favour of memorials to the Carol Smith Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship will be for students with learning disabilities who graduate from a high school in Moose Jaw or Mossbank and go on to post-secondary education.  Donations may be directed to the Moose Jaw School District No. 1 Bursary Fund Inc. care of Prairie South School Division, 15 Thatcher Drive East, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 1L8.  A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 29th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Reverend John Carley officiating.
