Alice Margaret Smith
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alice Margaret Smith announce her passing on Monday, March 14th, 2011 at the age of 77. Mom was born to Ivan and Maggie Friars and grew up in the Parkbeg area along with her 13 siblings. On October 14th, 1955, she married Basil Smith and together they raised three children: Doug, Laura and Gary. In 1965, Mom and Dad bought their home on Eastend. It was a home of love and laughter and a home away from home for all of our friends. Mom worked at many different jobs through the years but her most rewarding occupation was motherhood and when the grandchildren came along, they brought many joyous moments. Mom could be found on the sidelines of many of her grandchildren’s sporting events, keeping stats and cheering. The grandkids’ favorite pastime was camping with Grandma and Grandpa at Besant Park Campground. In February of 1995, Mom lost the love of her life, Basil. Mom is survived by her children: Doug & Deb, Laura & Conrad Vautour, and Gary & Twila; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jodi & Rick Erickson (Connor & Jacob), Blair & Cathy Vautour, Chantal Vautour & Josh Matthies, Jason Smith (Riely), Jessica, Karson & Kolton Smith; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kali & Brad Woodley (Justice, Adyia & Ashton), Sean & Jeri-Lynn Watson, Amanda & Shawn Barrett (Ryker), Lisa-Marie, Ashley & Clayton Bloch; brothers and sisters: Jean & Bert Perry, Ethel & Ruben Dewalt, Gordon & Ruby Friars, Betty & Lloyd Remple, Arnold Friars, Linda & Wayne Riley and Jack & Sharon Baron; and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held. A Time of Fellowship for relatives and friends will be held on Saturday, March 19th, 2011 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
