Orville Skjerdal
It is with very heavy hearts that the family of Orville Skjerdal announce his peaceful passing on February 7th, 2018 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK after a brief illness. Orville will be forever missed. Orville was born at Ounger, SK on October 9th, 1936. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was loved and respected by all. His wife and family were very important to him. Orville worked at the Moose Jaw Fire Department for 28 years, retiring as a Captain in 1993. Upon retirement, Orville and LouVonne made many trips to the USA for winters and also to Europe. They also enjoyed camping with their friends in the Good Sam Chapter for many years. They had recently moved to Regina. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Haakon and Isabelle; brother, Lloyd; mother and father-in-law, Cora and Art Matters; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lloyd Matters, Lorraine (Don) Neilson, Faye (Peter) Friedrickson, and Roy Waller; as well as several nieces and nephews. Orville leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 61 years, LouVonne(Matters), sons: Vern, Keith (Bonnie) and their two daughters Stacey (Mason Hlagy) and Melissa Skjerdal (Matt Spence), Steve (Pam) and their three sons Scott and his two sons Slade and Landon (Crystal), Kyle, and Evan (Erin); daughter, Katherine (Garth) Huber and their three daughters Jennifer Genest, Danielle Genest and Cassandra Huber (Garrett); sister, Alma Rushton; sisters-in-law: Laura (Allen) Larsen, Fern (Morris) Hillstead, June Matters, and Karen Skjerdal; as well as many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. A Memorial Tea to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 17th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Orville’s name may be made to The Quest for a Cure (a research center for MS and other Neurological disorders) – Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation, 701 Queen St, Saskatoon, SK S7K 0M7 or to a charity of one’s choice.
