LEON SHULL
June 15th, 1937 – June 28th, 2013
It is with tremendous sadness that the family announces the passing of Leon Shull on Friday, June 28th, 2013. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathy; his son, Rob; his daughter-in-law, Lynda; his grandchildren, Connor and Caylie; his brother, Stan (Rita); his sister, Mary; brothers-in-law, Mike Hrechka (Darlene) and Bill Hrechka (Bev); sisters-in-law, Anne McGinnis (Bill) and Judy Shul; and his many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Leon was predeceased by his parents, Anastasia and Michael; his brothers, Steve and Walter; and his sister, Alice. Leon was born in Ituna, Saskatchewan, on June 15th, 1937. He grew up on his family farm and attended Beaverside School. Leon moved to Moose Jaw at the age of 16 and over the course of his life, Leon had many occupations. He worked in construction and at Patterson Motors in Moose Jaw. Leon was an active member of the Legion of Frontiersmen for many years. Leon married Kathy on July 17th, 1964. From 1968 to 1986, Leon and Kathy owned and operated the Burger Palace restaurant on Main Street in Moose Jaw. During this time, for a period of 12 years, Leon served on the Board of the Moose Jaw Exhibition as a Director. He was a driving force behind bringing the Casino to the Exhibition, and establishing the long-running tradition of harness racing in Moose Jaw. Also during this time, Leon enjoyed his many years of involvement with the Moose Jaw Stock Car Racing Association as a member, car co-owner, sponsor and one-time driver. Following that, Leon worked as a custodian for the Moose Jaw Board of Education until his retirement in 2002. Throughout his life, Leon was well known for helping friends, family and neighbors, and offering advice on many subjects. He enjoyed spending time in his garden and volunteering in his local park. Above all, Leon felt great joy in sharing in the lives of his grandchildren and watching them grow into wonderful young adults. Leon was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a member and past Vice President of Prosvita Ukrainian Culture of Moose Jaw. He was also very active with the Moose Jaw Volunteer Driver Association, providing transportation for people to medical appointments in Moose Jaw, Regina and Saskatoon. He was also an avid supporter of the Moose Jaw Warriors. Above all, Leon was a loving father, grandfather and husband, and a friend to so many. He will be greatly missed. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 5th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined.
