Melvin George Shooter
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melvin George Shooter aged 73 years of Central Butte, SK, on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024. Melvin was born in Central Butte on April 21st, 1950, to George and Grace Shooter. He grew up on the family farm south of Riverhurst, SK with his siblings Allan, Barbara, and Carolyn. In 1956 he started his education at Calderbank School and finished in Riverhurst. Melvin moved to Calgary, AB at the age of 18, where he worked construction. His construction career took him to Regina, SK where he met many people in the trade who remained close friends, right up until the time of his passing. After a few years in Regina, Melvin moved back to the family farm at Riverhurst and started a family, where he shared many memories with his children.
Although he enjoyed farming with his dad and brother, Melvin took up a position with Triline Trucking in the 1980’s. He had a love for the open road and continued his trucking career with ABBA Trucking in Central Butte until 2021/22. Melvin grew close with everyone at ABBA Trucking and often described them not only as friends, but as part of his family. He lived out the rest of his life in Central Butte and enjoyed meeting “the boys” every morning for coffee at the plant and conversing with his closest friends in the evenings at the local watering hole. Melvin will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Grace Shooter. Melvin is survived by his son, Curtis (Des) LaLonde; daughter, Jenna-Lee (Richard) Ment; son, Andrew (Belle) Shooter; grandchildren: Harley (Chantel) and Hanna LaLonde, Saige, Lyric, and Wylder Ment, Ryder and Stetson Shooter; siblings: Allan (Cheryl) Shooter, Carolyn (Allan) Kurz, and Barbara (Ron) Wandler; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Melvin’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 7th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in Riverhurst Community Hall, Riverhurst, SK. Wendy Gibson will officiate and interment will take place in Riverhurst Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Melvin’s name may be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, 200-4545 Parliament Ave, Regina, SK S4W 0G3.
