HOWARD SHIRKEY
March 21st, 1925 – January 9th, 2015
Howard Shirkey passed away on Friday, January 9th, 2015 at the age of 89 yrs. He was predeceased by his wife, Elly; sisters: Bernice Parks, Evelyn Seaman and Mildred Rombough; and brothers, Ray and Earl Shirkey. Howard will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Charles (Patti) and Patrick (Arlene); grandchildren: Matthew, Jordan and Hayley; sisters, Joyce Hodgins and Donna Pritchard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Howard was raised in Imperial and farmed for many years in the area. He was an avid sportsman who curled and played hockey as a young man. Howard served as a radar operator in the Canadian and British Navy during WWII and often reminisced about the places he visited. In 1964 he married Elly and they spent many happy years farming and traveling to Florida, enjoying the Blue Jays training camp and beautiful weather of Bonita Springs. After Elly’s passing, Howard travelled to Osoyoos for the warm winters and hospitality of southern British Columbia. He was so fond of his grandchildren, and even when his health failed he was still able to chat with Matthew about his great car, tease Jordan about her fashionable ripped jeans, and have a big hug and wink for his very special Hayley. Howard was especially proud of Pat and Arlene settling and building a life in his favorite place – Florida. The Shirkey family wishes to thank Dr.’s G.B. Van Heerden and Sanderson, The Bentley, GARU, Chateau St. Michael and Extendicare for their exemplary care of Howard over the past year. At Howard’s request there will be no Funeral Service. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Howard’s may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, #1600 – 20 Eglinton Ave W, Toronto, ON M4R 1K8. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
