Herman Segall

Herman Segall, passed away on Wednesday, July 18th, 2018 after a 68-year love story with his high school sweet heart, wife, and anchor Deanie (Gerry).  Deanie and Herman met when they were only 15, living and loving in Moose Jaw. Whether they were camping, cheering for a sports team or meeting friends on Coffee Row, they were never far from each other.  Herman liked to profess he got down on both knees to beg Deanie to marry him. Even through his battle with dementia, Herman kept his wit, teasing everyone around him. His razor sharp goalie skills stayed with him as his mind descended.  When Deanie tossed him a ball to catch, he never missed. Though they were separated in the last months of his life from this cruel disease, Deanie never left his side. Herman, an accomplished athlete passed his love for sports to his kids, and grandchildren.  What he didn’t pass along was any talent for music but he was always there to support his family in the arts. We know he could hear King of the Road being serenaded on the guitar as he took his final breaths. Herman, a railway man and was proud of his career. His house is a testament to this, filled with Canadian Pacific train memorabilia.  One of Herman’s treasured vacations was riding the Rocky Mountaineer through the majestic Rockies with Deanie by his side. Herman, your work here is done. You have left this earth, a life well lived. Your wife, children, grandkids, and great grandchildren are left with memories of a man who never backed down, knew the value of a dollar, and understood family came first.  We’ll continue to think of you often, when we hear a lonesome train whistle, when we see the Warriors score a goal or stop for a cup of coffee at the Uptown Cafe. Deanie, and the families of Larry, Lorianne, Layna, and Leslie will have a Celebration of Herman’s Life on Friday, July 20th, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Donations in Herman’s name are gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550 – 12th Ave, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
