Wilfred Wilbert Schick
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wilfred Wilbert Schick on Friday, August 12th, 2022. Wilfred was born in Wolseley, SK on November 23rd, 1934. He was predeceased by his wife, Loretta and son, Lyle. Wilfred is survived by his children: Garth (Kim), Laurie (Jay), and Gail (Mike).
Wilfred grew up on a farm outside of Wolesley, SK with his 4 sisters and attended a small country school. In 1961 he married his sweetheart and continued to work on the family farm. In 1970 they began an adventure and moved to Thompson, MB where Wilfred took on a job as a welder at the local mine. At this time, Wilfred and Loretta had 4 small children and kept busy taking them skating, playing hockey, dancing, and 4-H, but they also found time for themselves – competing in an adult bowling league and Wilfred playing hockey. In the summer there was also numerous camping trips. In 1980, Wilfred and his family moved back to Saskatchewan to live in Moose Jaw, where Wilfred took on a job at Kalium Mines and joined the Boilermakers Union as a welder.
In 1994, Wilfred and Loretta decided to retire, sell everything, and start another adventure in their life. They spent the winters down in Arizona and summers in Moose Jaw. It was at this time that Wilfred and Loretta rekindled a love that they had enjoyed as a young couple, and that was to dance. Together they participated in many polka festivals, which kept them very active on a weekly basis, along with visiting and helping their children establish their own lives. Their children started to have their own families, giving Wilfred and Loretta the joy of grandchildren: Ryan (Jenelle), Jay (Megan), Jacob, Lindsay, and Braydon. In the last few years, Wilfred also had the privilege to enjoy his great-grandchildren: Noah, Oliver, Elijah, and Hannah.
Wilfred, you will always be remembered as hardworking and putting others first. You will be dearly missed as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to all you have met. May you now Rest in Peace.
