HELEN B SCHELLER
September 21st, 1928 – March 3rd, 2018
Helen Scheller, aged 89 years of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018. Helen was born September 21st, 1928 on the farm near Hodgeville, SK to John and Rose Gehl. She had three sisters: Barbara, Rose, and Alma, and four brothers: John, Joe, Alex, and Peter. She was predeceased by all except her sister, Rose Ager of Assiniboia, SK. Helen attended Trimoth Manor and Norfolk Schools in the Hodgeville district, and married John Scheller on November 27th, 1946. After living and working in Lethbridge, AB, they settled down on the farm in the Hodgeville/Vanguard area. They raised crops, hay, cattle, pigs, chickens and horses, and there was always a huge garden, lots of canned fruit, vegetables, sausage, milk, cream, butter, and her famous homemade bread! Her family has great memories of butchering, sausage and perogie making, neighbours visiting, playing cards, as well as children’s friends and nieces and nephews visiting. After moving to Moose Jaw, Helen continued with her love of cooking at Shell Restaurant and Chez Nous. She resided in Saskatoon, Regina, Swift Current and Moose Jaw, then moved to Hodgeville to be a caregiver to her three brothers. After they passed away, she moved to Vanguard, SK to be near her family. Her neighbours were always amazed at the parade of grandkids, great-grandkids, and adopted grandkids through her door. After a short stay in the Herbert Hospital and Chez Nous in Moose Jaw, Helen moved to Independent Living at St. Michael’s, then to The Bentley where she resided until she was admitted to the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw. She was predeceased by her husband, John Scheller on August 26th, 1992; her first great-grandson, Shawn Bickner on September 15th, 1996; and son-in-law, Barry Bickner on January 3rd, 2014.
