R.J. (Jack) Rushford Q.C
R.J. (Jack) Rushford Q.C., aged 83 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Monday, February 17th, 2014. Jack was born in Gull Lake, SK. He graduated from Shaunavon High School and following a short period of employment with the Sask. Dept. of Public Health, he attended the University of Saskatchewan where he completed his Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1954. He was a member of the University Naval Training Division and earned his commission as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy. Following a period of articles to Lester McTaggart QC of Grayson & Company, he was called to the Bar in 1956. Jack was a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan and served as a Bencher of the Society and Chairman of the Finance and Libraries Committees from 1975 to 1982. He was appointed a Queens Counsel in 1979. Jack was also a Member of the Canadian Bar Association, having served on the Council of the Saskatchewan Section from 1971 to 1974. He was a Past President of the Moose Jaw Rotary Club and Past Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Saskatchewan Dragoons. In 1978, Jack was appointed to the Civil Aviation Tribunal for Canada where he served for 7 years. He was also a member of the Regina Advisory Board to Royal Trust. Jack and Yionna enjoyed their time living at Buffalo Pound Lake and their yearly vacations in Mexico. Jack was an avid pilot and cherished his numerous trips across Canada and through the U.S. in his Grumman Tiger with his travel buddy, Wray. He was predeceased by his parents and 4 brothers. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Yionna; son, David (Loretta); daughter, Celia (Jeff); stepson, Carey (Vlad); granddaughters: Hayley, Kayla (Darrell) and Miranda; and great-granddaughter, Aria. Missing Jack are his two companions, Paco and CeeJae. In keeping with Jack’s wishes, a Private Service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
