Anne Romanuk
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Anne Romanuk on July 10, 2014. Anne’s life began on August 13, 1920. She was the eldest of seven children, she grew up on the family farm near Canora, Saskatchewan. Mom married our dad, John Romanuk, in 1937 and for a time they operated an old style corner store on Coteau Street in Moose Jaw. In later years, mom served as a nurse’s aide and occupational therapy aide at Valley View Centre, where she worked for 22 years until her retirement. Mom had a passion for flowers and was awarded many honors and trophies for her entries in horticultural competitions. Mom’s church was extremely important to her throughout her life. A devout member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada, she was also involved in 5 pin bowling, fitness activities, was a great fan of Rider football and during family gatherings, was not above sneaking an extra point in cribbage or lawn darts. Mom truly loved to go fishing, winter or summer, and delighted in boasting when she “out fished the men”, which was quite often. A cool glass of champagne with dinner was a must to cap the day. While we mourn our loss, we take comfort knowing that she will once again be with those of us she so dearly missed. Among them are her parents, Milko and Mary Wowk, her husband, John Romanuk, her daughter, Fran Helfrick and husband Ron, and son, Don Romanuk. Mom will also be reunited with her brothers, John and Bill, her sister, Elsie and her longtime friend and companion, Peter Ewanchuk. By far, Mom’s greatest joy was her family. She taught us well, and led by example and instilled in us the greatest gift, that being the unquestionable knowledge that she was, and always would be, there for us, no matter what. Further, she taught us the meaning of being a family, our heritage and the traditions that we so proudly continue in her honor. We will celebrate this wonderful, vibrant lady and miss her evermore. Mom’s son is Ken (Lil) Romanuk, daughter Dianne (Glenn) Brown, daughter-in-law Wendy Romanuk, sister Jean (Nick) Homenuik, brother Fred (Gerry) Wowk and sister Florence (Bill) Keveryga. Grandchildren who will miss their Baba are: Jeffrey (Rhonda) Romanuk, Lorie Legault, Teri (Dave) Romanuk, Bobbi (Kevin) Ingalls, Scott (Julie) Snider and Linda Thorson. From these grandkids, Mom was blessed with ten really great-grandkids who did their best to make her laugh while they gobbled up the world’s best perogies. Nieces, nephews, friends, so much love, so many lives touched by our Mom. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 621 5th Ave. S.W., Moose Jaw, SK with Reverend Father Yurij Lazurko as presiding celebrant. A Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date at Rosedale Cemetery. In memory of Anne, memorial donations may be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 621 5th Ave. S.W., Moose Jaw, SK. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
