Charles Gilbert Riddell,
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Charles Gilbert Riddell, aged 94 years of Moose Jaw, SK, on Saturday, January 14th, 2017. Charles was born in Moose Jaw on February 1st, 1922 to Alfred and Amy (Kyle) Riddell. He grew up in Moose Jaw and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 during WWII. He was stationed in locations across Canada and served with the Catalina and Liberator Squadrons as a Pilot officer. While Charles was stationed in Nova Scotia, he met and married Florence, and after the war they both returned to Moose Jaw. Charles had a lengthy career with the City of Moose Jaw, retiring in 1987 as Manager of Transit. Retirement years kept him busy enjoying time tinkering on projects, maintaining his beautiful yard and garden, and spending time at the family cabin at Buffalo Pound Lake. Charles greatly enjoyed being outdoors, walking and cross-country skiing, especially in Wakamow Valley right out his back door. He was lucky to remain very healthy all his life, with the exception of the past few years where he developed Dementia. Although the disease took some of his memory, his easy personality and good sense of humour remained. Florence and Charles have been able to spend the past 2 years together living at Providence Place. They spent every day together enjoying each other’s company, having been married over 71 years. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Toews; and daughter-in-law, Valerie (Pratt) Riddell. Charles is survived by his wife, Florence; sons: Fred (Pat), Alf, and Bruce (Cathy); daughter, Tawnia (Doug) Stephanson; grandchildren: Starla, Alf, Robert, Riley, Krystle, Jessica, Chelsie and Brynn; and great-grandchildren: Jordan, Carter, Noah, Luther, Keyn, Kase and Charles. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 21st, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Reverend Deacon Arleen Champion officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles’ name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
