ALITHA FLORENCE “FLO” RIDDELL
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Flo Riddell, aged 95 years of Moose Jaw, SK on Monday, September 7th, 2020.
Flo was born in Grand Bruit, Newfoundland on May 20th, 1925 to John and Rebecca (Taylor) Dicks. She grew up in Channel-Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division in 1943 during WWII. Flo had fond memories of these times and being stationed at locations across Canada. While stationed in Nova Scotia, Flo met Charles Riddell and they were married on May 2nd, 1945.
The end of the war brought Flo and Chuck to Moose Jaw to grow their family to include 5 children. Flo’s focus was on raising the kids and as they grew up, she worked outside of the home most memorably at the Army & Navy Store. The cabin at Buffalo Pound Lake provided sixty years’ enjoyment for family and life-long friendships. Flo enjoyed several trips over the years returning to her beloved Rock, Newfoundland. She always kept busy by volunteering whenever asked, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Anavets, Red Hat Society activities, social outings, shopping and more shopping! Flo loved to sit and visit with a cup of tea and have a yarn with anyone.
Flo and Chuck were married 72 years and were together each day until his passing in 2017.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; daughter, Donna Toews (Shaw); son-in-law, Captain John Shaw; and daughter-in-law, Valerie (Pratt) Riddell. Flo is survived by her sons: Fred (Pat), Alf, and Bruce (Cathy); daughter, Tawnia (Doug) Stephanson; grandchildren: Starla, Alfie, Robert, Riley, Krystle, Jessica, Chelsie and Brynn; and great-grandchildren: Jordan, Carter, Noah, Luther, Keyn, Kase, Charles and Anastasia. She will also be remembered by special nieces Ida and Margaret, and extended family in Newfoundland.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 17th, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw, SK. Due to the current Covid-19 health situation, confirmation of attendance must be made by reservation to dandtstephanson@sasktel.net.
