Gladys Ivy Perry
Gladys Ivy Perry (née: Waite) passed away at the Golden Acres Nursing Home in Wynyard, SK on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at the age of 101 years. She resided in her own home in Wishart, SK until recently when her health started to fail. She then became a resident of the nursing home.
Gladys was born on July 2nd, 1918 to Robert Waite and Anniebel Hall on the family farm in the Rural Municipality of Emerald #277. She and her siblings Howard, May, Alvin, Ernest and Ethel attended Touchwood School. She married Walter Perry on November 8th, 1940. They farmed for several years until moving to Wishart. She worked at the grocery store for some time and was also a caregiver to her elderly parents, as well as Walter’s father; true in-home care, as they resided with Walter and Gladys until each passed away.
Gladys was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, knitting and gardening. She was community-minded and enjoyed helping with church functions, 4 H, figure skating, curling and community clubs. We smile as we remember her competitive spirit, when she played many social games like curling, carpet bowling and shuffleboard. We admired her determination, sense of independence and her witty yet caring nature. Lately, she admitted to having to “bite her tongue” more often and told us that one has to make up your mind to get along to make life better for yourself and others.
Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Anniebel Waite; her husband, Walter; step-daughter, Dorothy Murdock and her husband Campbell; son, Lorne; grandson, Miles Murdock; siblings: Howard Waite, May Christensen, Alvin Waite and Ernest Waite and their spouses; and David Nelson.
Gladys is survived by her loving family: children, Ross (Elaine)and Joan Malinowski (Melvin), and daughter-in-law, Betty (Marie) Perry; her grandchildren: Cindy Murdock, Lorna Labossiere (Robin), Linda Topp, Marjorie Murdock (Garth Windigo); Kim Kirstein (Duane), Scot Perry (Nicole Lambert), Neil Perry (Wanda); Tara Malinowski (Jeff Kinash), Jana Davison (Shawn); Salina Perry (Jason Hrynyk) and Charles Perry (Candace); her great-grandchildren: Beverly Murdock-Counts (Shawn), Adam Murdock (Sheena), Meagan Morrisey (Jeremy), Kelly Davidson (Jonathan), Danielle Clarke (Gordon), Candice Ambrose (Jordan); Dylan Kirstein, Tiana Kirstein, Miranda Perry, Lindon Perry, Shelby Lang-Perry, Sienna Perry, Saige Perry, Freya Kinash, Isobel Kinash, Ruby Kinash, Rio Lagos-Davison, Marin Davison, Sloan Davison, Elle Davison, and Emma Perry; numerous great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Ethel Nelson; and a community of caring friends and relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 30th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Centennial Hall in Wishart, SK. Pastor Tim Falk will officiate and interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gladys’ name may be made to The Stone Church Cemetery Fund c/o R.M. of Emerald #277 or to Golden Acres Nursing Home in Wynyard, SK.
