EVELYN MARY PARSONS
October 9th, 1925 – February 23rd, 2024
Evelyn Mary Parsons aged 98 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23rd, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Eliza James; husband, Garnet; and daughter-in-law, Sandy. Evelyn will be missed and lovingly remembered by her son, Doug; daughter, Diane (Glen) Adkins; grandson, Drew (Melissa) Adkins and their children Kingston and Brooklyn; granddaughter, Amy Adkins; and grandson, Brett Adkins.
Evelyn was born in Regina, SK and grew up in Moose Jaw, attending Ross Elementary and Technical High School. She began her working career at the Robin Hood Flour Mill, where she met Garnet, and they married in 1952. She was a stay-at-home mom while Doug and Diane were young. Evelyn later returned to work and finished her career at the Moose Jaw Public Library.
Evelyn had many interests and hobbies which included gardening, sewing and knitting, jigsaw puzzles, and baking. Her peanut butter chocolate chip cookies were famous, far and wide. Playing cards was another passion and she was always ready for a game of crib or whist.
One of Evelyn’s greatest joys was time spent at the family cabin at Buffalo Pound Lake. She was an active participant in the planning and construction of the cabin in 1958 and spent time there every summer since, visiting with friends and neighbours on the beach, on the deck, or around a campfire, her last stay at the lake being a week in August 2023.
Evelyn was a trusted and reliable friend, spending many hours visiting and assisting friends in times of need. The family would like to acknowledge Pat Axon, Nancy McClafferty, and Karren Pederson for their friendship, love and support of Evelyn throughout the years.
In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, she will be laid to rest with her husband at Rosedale Cemetery. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Doug, Diane, and all your family. We were so sorry to hear the passing of your mom. What a strong, independent woman she was. She fought hard throughout her life. She will be missed.by all who knew her. We were so thankful for her friendship my mom and dad had with her and your dad. She was the only one who faithfully visited mom through her journey. We will miss the visits at the lake and it will not be “ quite the same” without her presence. If we could all lead a life “ well lived” we would be lucky. Heartfelt condolences to you all
Joanne (Peterson) and Garry Barber
I’m so sorry for your loss Ev was a wonderful kind woman. My mom meet her doing volunteer library work with Gerry in early 99s. Thus how I met her tea at mom’s at the store talk on phone. A wonderful lady was grand to have known her . Prayer and hugs to her dear ones bless you
My heart goes out to Doug, Diane & Glen and family at the loss of such a grand example of living a good life! Ev was such a spark plug! She loved her lake life! She was a clear thinker and had opinions! She was always busy … swimming well into her golden years, carting her ‘current read’, her crosswords and her knitting wherever she went. She was conscious of those who needed a friend, and was a special presence in so many lives!
I feel lucky to have had her influence in my life and was always appreciative if she shared her energy or thoughts with me. Never one to mince words, I recall her giving me a huge hug at my own Mom’s funeral, while whispering in my ear “What on earth did you do to your hair?!” She meant no harm … she just had that ever-present voice of reason!
I’m certain that all who knew her feel a great loss. Rest In Peace, Mrs. P.
Doug, Diane and Family. I was sorry to read of your mom’s passing. To all who know her, she is definitely an example of a life well lived. I will remember her strength, independence and no-nonsense approach. She was a good friend to our mom, Basil and me — and so many others. I think of her smile and that signature little chuckle.
Condolences to you all.
