Shawna North
Shawna North passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, friends and her devoted cat, Merle on Thursday, March 14th, 2019. Shawna will be forever remembered by the love of her life, Keith Romanow. She was predeceased by her dad, John (Jack) North and father-in-law, Tom Romanow. Left to mourn are her mom, Corien North; sisters, Tracey North and Teresa North; mother-in-law, Effie Romanow; brothers-in-law, Michael (Lauralie) Romanow and Tim (Gaètan) Romanow; sister-in-law, Sharon Romanow; nieces Melissa and Kayla, nephew Jesse and their mother Joanne Romanow; her close circle of friends which included: Wendy, Jacquie, Mona and Cheryl, all of whom played an important part of her life; as well as other relatives and friends. Shawna was born in Moose Jaw, SK on September 16th, 1965, daughter to Corien and Jack North. Growing up she was a daredevil. She loved skateboarding, BMX and motocross. That didn’t change over the years, as she went skydiving with her best friend Wendy in August 2017. Shawna loved history, old movies, country music, books and TV, and that led to her pursuing a B.A. majoring in History from University of Saskatchewan and then attending Kelsey to get her Library Technician designation. She then returned to Moose Jaw to start her career in the library at Saskatchewan Polytechnic (STI/SIAST). She was actively involved in the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees Union (SGEU) holding various positions, currently sitting on the local committee as Steward and Campus Chair and on the Provincial Council as Education Sector VP. During the spring of ’89 she met Keith while working at Patterson Motors and their relationship bloomed throughout the years. Together, they enjoyed horseback riding, golfing, travelling, hanging out in the backyard, cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders on the big screen, raising dogs and cats, and spending time with family and friends. Shawna was always very active enjoying soccer, running, team roping, golfing with the girls, canoeing the South Saskatchewan River with Karen, and playing the guitar. We will miss her very much. A Celebration of Shawna’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 21st, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the Sportsman Centre, 276 Home St E, Moose Jaw, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Shawna may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7 or Band City Stray Cat Rescue (SCRAPS), PO Box 1653, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7. Played soccer with Shawna sorry to hear of her passing.
Keith – I was very sad to hear Shawna succumbed to her illness. As legal counsel for SGEU, I worked with Shawna on a number of complex legal projects and always found her to be completely delightful. Besides being incredibly bright and articulate, I enjoyed her humour, her passion for her beliefs, and her persistence in achieving a fair resolution. I know all of the lawyers in our firm who worked with her felt the same way. She was a true inspiration within the labour relations community.
To the family of Shawna, our condolences. I have known Shawna through my involvement with SGEU. She was very welcoming, supportive, and made me feel I belong with the team of union representatives. She always had a welcoming smile when we met I will miss Shawna who represented and supported all people most specially the women who needed support. May you now Rest In Peace.

My deepest condolences + prayers to Keith + family. I am one of Shawna’ graduate friends from Peacock High School. We played sports together, hung out together, partied together.
