Tom Newton
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our patriarch, Tom Newton on July 12th, 2010 at the age of 88 years. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Eleanor, his children Karen Storey (Bill Muirhead), Debbie Sapieha (Ernie), Lola Newton (Steve Kerr) and Graham Newton (Wendy), and his ten grandchildren, Gillian, Erin, Graham and Michael Storey, Kristin, Jeff and Kaylee Sapieha, and Matt, Britt, and Jenna Newton. Tom was predeceased by his parents, John and Jean Newton, his brothers, John and Chris Newton and his sisters, Cathy Sinnott, Jean Chapman and Ada Miller. He is survived by his sister, Marge Hurtig, and his brother, Bill Newton (Dola). Tom spent his entire life farming in the Central Butte area. He was very active in the community, a member of the Legion, the Senior Centre, and the United Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing bridge with his many friends. He loved to spend time outside, and was often found cutting flowers to give to his wife. Tom was away from the area during WWII, where he served as a pilot in the 22nd Ferry Command of the Royal Air Force. He loved to get in the cockpit with his eastern cousins, the Curellys. The family would like to thank Dr. Kirsty Sanderson and the nurses at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. A very special thank you to Tom’s niece, Gail Miller, for her extra TLC on the ward. Your compassion to us during a very difficult time will not be forgotten. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 17th, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Central Butte United Church followed by a private family interment at the Central Butte Cemetery. Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society, 110 – 2550 – 12th Avenue, Regina, SK. S4P 3X1.
