Edna Irene Newman
Edna Irene Newman, born January 11th, 1916 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 at Extendicare, at the age of 93 years. Edna was predeceased by her husband Conrad Newman, her parents Astrid and Arthur Houghton, her brother Harry, and her sister Elaine. She is survived by her brother Arthur James (Margaret) and her sister Alma Ogden of Moose Jaw; two nieces Donna Houghton (Charlie) and Linda Hazen (Chris); nephews Arthur Walter (Wendy) and Colin James (AnnMarie). Edna volunteered her time to many organizations in the city of Regina. She was truly a helpful, caring person in the community in which she lived. She was a faithful member of the Baptist Church in Regina, as well as Moose Jaw. In 1932 Edna received the first Governor-General’s award ever given to a local technical high school. Her family was certainly proud of this accomplishment. Sincere thanks to the staff at Chez Nous; then to the loving care she received at Extendicare over the last 3 years. She will be truly missed by her brother who faithfully visited to encourage and support Edna in this time of illness. Flowers are gratefully declined. For those so wishing, donations in memory of Edna may be sent to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. East, Moose Jaw, Sask. S6H 1H3. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date.
