Alice Doreen Nelson
Surrounded by her loving family, Alice Doreen Nelson passed away on Thursday, November 10th, 2016. Doreen was born July 28th, 1928 to William and Olive Pritchett (Hewitt) in Truax, SK, the 3rd of 5 children. She was predeceased by her father and mother; brother, Walter; sister, Lila; brothers-in-law, Wilfred Resch and John Petrisor; and grandson-in-law, Kirby Mealing. Doreen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Walter; son, Bill Nelson (Annamae); daughter, Janet Day (Doug Bender); grandchildren: Curtis Nelson (Tracy), Michael Nelson (Tracy), Damon Nelson (Doris), Regan Nelson, Nadine Bermudez (Omar), Rod Day (Jana), and Tracey Mealing (Tim Inglis); great-grandchildren: Kyle (Keely), Kaelyn, Carter, Kix, Max, Breia, Gabby, Ivy, Shaelyn, Pacen, Bennett, Sawyer, Lincoln and Nash; sisters, Betty Resch and June Zagozeski (Joe); in-laws, Jean Kincaid, Margie Hewitt, Bernice Sanderson and Gary Nelson; as well as many nieces and nephews. Doreen’s family was the joy of her life. She had a passion for fine décor, as well as cooking and baking which was second to none. Wally and Doreen had many working ventures together, including a world class John Deere and General Motors business in Avonlea that has thrived for over 5 decades, along with a beautiful golf course, Long Creek Golf & C.C. They travelled extensively throughout the world together and spent many winters at their home in Arizona entertaining friends, customers and family. Doreen loved to stay in touch and up to date with all family and friends which involved many hours on the phone. Wally and family would like to thank Linda and staff at Coteau Range Manor in Avonlea for the loving care given during Doreen’s short stay there. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 17th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre St, Regina, SK. A Time of Visitation for Family and Friends will be held on Wednesday, November 16th, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Peters Anglican Church in Avonlea, SK. AS an expression of sympathy, donations in Doreen’s name may be made to Coteau Range Manor c/o Village of Avonlea, Box 209, Avonlea, SK S0H 0C0 or the new town hall construction also c/o the Village of Avonlea.
