GLADYS MARJORY MORTON
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys on Sunday, March 24th, 2013 at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Allan & Lillie Affleck; siblings, Alan and Elsie; in-laws: John, Phillip, George and Muriel; and her loving husband, James. Gladys is survived by her sister, Marion Tolley; nieces: Marj (Kelly) Staples, Nancy (Allen) Melnychuk and Allison (Keith) Hubelit; 5 Tolley nephews: Tony (Les), Clive (Muriel), Lindsay (Dawn), Allan (Marilou) and Roger (Barb); nephew, Douglas (Fran) Rayner; and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Vince and her family Scott (Cheryl) Vince, Sandra (Graham) Smith, Margie (Glenn) Mickelson and their children and grandchildren. Gladys attended Alexandra School and Central Collegiate, where she enjoyed playing/excelling in many sports, especially basketball. She graduated from a Business Course at Moose Jaw Technical School and had a long, busy book-keeping career. Gladys met James, a Scottish soldier, stationed at the local airbase. They married in Scotland in 1946, but eventually returned to Moose Jaw. Gladys led an active life, playing many sports like golf, badminton and skating (even in her 80’s). She especially loved playing tennis with her sister Elsie (Double’s Champions) and spent many happy summers with friends and family at the Moose Jaw Tennis Club. Gladys’ greatest joy was dancing, whether in a beautiful ball gown at the Officer’s Mess or being inspired to let loose whenever she heard a lively tune. James and Gladys had many happy years of entertaining family and friends at their BP Lake cabin and taking annual holidays to Waskesui, Maui and Scotland. They spent 25 years of retirement in Sidney, BC. Gladys returned to her beloved Moose Jaw 15 months ago to be near her family. In keeping with Gladys’ wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Gladys’ name may be made to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1H3 or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Jeff Ofstie, Funeral Director. 693-4550.
