Barbara Chedzey Moen (nee Mayo) 1925 – 2014
It is with sadness that Barbara’s family announces her passing on Sunday, January 5th, 2014 at the Union Hospital in Moose Jaw, SK at the age of 88 years. Barbara is survived by her husband, Selmer; and all her special extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Hubert (1957) and Emily (1969); her brothers: Charles (1995), George (1994), Geoffrey (1967), Rex (1971), John (1988) and Peter (2013); her sisters: Mavis (1992), Violet (2007) and Phyllis (2011), and two half-brothers, Pierce (1974) and Frank (1965). Barbara was born on the family farm near Hazenmore, SK on December 29th, 1925. She married Selmer in 1945. They moved to Calgary in 1948 and lived there until 2008 when they moved to Caronport, SK, and two years later to Moose Jaw. Barbara was an avid gardener, a wonderful cook and homemaker, a member of the Anglican Church and a life member of the Calgary Humane Society. She loved family gatherings, and was a very gracious hostess. Barbara worked part-time at The Bay in Calgary for 27 years. Special thanks to the staff at Moose Jaw Union Hospital for the care she received in her final days. A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Monday, January 13th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Reverend-Deacon Arleen Champion will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Barbara’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
