Wilma Mews
Wilma Alice Mews (née Galey), aged 87 years of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on Wednesday, September 12th, 2018. Wilma was born in 1930 on the family farm in the Caron District, second daughter to Alice and Oscar Galey. She grew up on the family farm until 1940 when the family moved to Moose Jaw. Wilma received her education at Victoria, Alexander, and Technical High School. At the age of 13 she worked part time at “The Boys Shop” while finishing her education, and went on to work at the Royal Theatre Christie Grants, as well as many years at Moose Jaw Co-op, retiring in June 1992. Wilma married Norman Mews in June 1953 and farmed in the Coubourg and Archive Districts for many years. Her hobbies included knitting, dancing, playing cards, sewing, crocheting, plastic weaving, skating, music, and cooking. Wilma also enjoyed many other crafts such as making Christmas trees from baby bottles, hangers from plastic lattice with lights and garland to be put into her windows for Christmas decorations, and sequin art. She also took part in bowling and won many trophies over the years. She loved her flowers and gardening, and had a very nice yard. Her door was always open to everyone she befriended, with a caring and warm hearted concern for others. Wilma enjoyed watching several programs such as The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Hollywood Squares, Millionaire, Canadian and American Idol, and Dancing with the Stars, as well as watching movies on her satellite dish. She is now resting in peace with her mother, Alice (1986); father, Oscar (1997); husband, Norman (1993); brother, Douglas (2010); sister, Marj Duzan (2018); special sister-in-law, Uretta (1964); and father-in-law, Charles (1965). Wilma leaves to cherish her memories of love and caring: her special sons, Blaine (Cory) and Wayne (Phyllis); granddaughter, Kandi (Dave) Carpender; grandson, Shawn; sister-in-law, Gayle Galey; special cat, Tigger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 18th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery.
