Kenneth Frederick Mews
Kenneth Frederick Mews, aged 70 years of Moose Jaw, SK passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 with his family by his side. Ken was born on April 12th, 1947 to Herb and Uretta Mews. He was raised on the family farm southwest of Moose Jaw. Ken attended school at Cobourg, Westmount, St. Louis College and Peacock Collegiate. After high school, Ken (Kenny, Mewsie, or Moo) worked the winters in the Oil and Gas Industry in Alberta, returning to work on the family farm each spring. After seven years of working up north, he was able to purchase his own farm land. He married Barb Herchuk in 1978 and they built their new farmyard in the Archive district. Their daughter Tara was born in 1979, and son Jordie in 1981. After twenty five years of farming, Ken returned to work in the seismic industry for another twelve years. He then spent the last few years working close to home as the shop foreman for the RM of Baildon. Ken was a very honest, hardworking man who was devoted to his family. Mewsie was a clear common sense thinker, an inventive spirit, a creative mind, and a man who loved the challenge of coming up with solutions to problem situations. He developed a multitude of self-taught skills throughout the years. Ken possessed a very quick wit and a great sense of humour. He was fun to be around, always having lots of laughs. Ken demonstrated amazing strength and bravery, especially during this past year and a half, and his strong spirit shone through as he battled and made the best of a tough situation. His passions were varied and numerous: hours working in his shop, browsing salvage sites and finding things for himself and his friends, loved fishing, the occasional golf game, and enjoying the animal companionship of their many cats and dogs throughout the years. He was predeceased by his mother Uretta when he was young, and many years later by his father Herb and stepmother Thelma (Muldoon). Ken is survived by his wife, Barb; daughter, Tara; son, Jordie; brother, Al (Mary); special aunt, Hilda Davies; his stepfamily: Linda Downey, Dennis (Bonnie) Muldoon, and Marsha Muldoon; brother-in-law, Daryl Herchuk; sisters-in-law, Jill (Lance) Andrews and Lorie (Dean) Norris; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family sends a very ‘special thanks’ to Dr. Joanne Fynn, Vi Reaman of Ambulatory Care, the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, and the Palliative Care Team 5 Hills Health Region, especially the exceptional daily care and guidance from Pat and Lisa. Also, thank you to family and friends for all the love and support. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Dave Foley officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s name may be made The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7 or the Allan Blair Cancer Centre c/o Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Ave, Regina, SK S4T 7T1.
