Mary Mengel

Mary Mengel passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Thursday, June 30th, 2016 at the age of 90 years.  She was predeceased by her parents, John and Theresa Shatkowski; her loving husband of 39 years, Leo; daughter-in-law, Sandra Mengel; 11 brothers and 2 sisters.  Mary is survived by her children, Kathy (Ronnie) Schropp and Carl (Karen) Mengel; grandchildren: Terry (Rae-Lee) Schropp, Danny (Chantelle) Schropp, Shawn (Britt) Mengel and Teena Mengel.  She also leaves to mourn, her great-grandchildren: Hailey, Carter, Oakley, Easton and Josh; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Mary was born and spent most of her life in Findlater, Saskatchewan.  She moved to Regina and then spent her last few years at Extendicare in Moose Jaw.  She loved gardening, knitting, was known for her great cooking, and loved traveling with friends and family.  She knew and heard more than she let on for sure…no one could ever sneak anything by Mary without her figuring things out, even up to her last days.  A special thanks goes out to the wonderful, caring staff at Extendicare, and thank you to those of you who stopped in for a visit or took the time to call her up on the phone over the last few years.  She loved seeing family and friends, and loved hearing about the latest news.  Visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her smile from ear to ear.  During her last few months, Teena spent almost every day helping her Grama.  Mary also loved the treats that we would all bring her when we visited…Tim Hortons, homemade pies, Piggy Puffs, and cherry cheesecake, and we can’t forget “Joey’s Only”.  Now that’s a story on its own!!!  Mary proudly wore her Roughrider shirt for every game, but lately started giving up on the Riders saying “Ah…They are only going to lose anyway”.  She always had a smile and a heart of gold.  The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 7th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Findlater Community Hall with Father Sauspino presiding.  Flowers are gratefully declined.  Donations in Mary’s name may be made at the Findlater Cemetery Fund, Box 20, Findlater, SK SOG 1PO.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Todd Sjoberg, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
