Douglas McLaren
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Douglas McLaren. It is also with great joy that we remember and celebrate Doug’s 90-plus years with us. Doug passed away peacefully on February 13 th, 2007 after a lifetime surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Doug was born on the family farm near Caron on June 10th, 1915, the 10 th of 11 children, to John and Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his parents, his loving first wife, Alma and all of his brothers and sisters. Doug was the hub of his family but reached out to the community as well. He was a devoted husband to Eva, a cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a stalwart member of his beloved Minto Church, a happy and entertaining member of his Co-op coffee group, a great card player, a past member of the Mortlach Golf Club and a successful and respected Moose Jaw businessman. Fur town was opened in 1969 and Doug bought out his partners in 1973 at the age of 58. All of these diverse roles were enhanced by Doug’s caring, loving and enthusiastic personality. Left to treasure his memories are his wife, Eva; children Darlene (Mike), Diane (Dennis), Nolan (Marie), Heather (Glenn); grandchildren, Kevin, Tricia, Keith, Shauna, Tyler, Kecia, Laura, Kathryn and Eric; and 10 great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his large extended family of McLaren’s, Rowe’s, Rattray’s and Hubick’s. A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at Minto Church, 1036-7 th Ave. N.W., on Monday, February 19 th, 2007 at 1:30p.m. Reverend John Carley will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemeter. A time of visitation will be held for family and friends on Sunday, February 18 th from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane . In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Minto United Church Building Fund, 1036-7 th Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw, SK S6H 4C4 or the charity of your choice.
