Allan Arnold McKinney
We bid farewell to a kind, compassionate husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and brother, Allan Arnold McKinney. Allan was born July 31st, 1936 in Killam, AB. He married the love of his life, Jean Robillard, on September 1st, 1962. With pride they welcomed into their lives: son, Dean, daughter, Tracy (Robert) Chapman; grandsons, Gareth (Jodie) and Kyle Chapman; great-grandson, Charles John Allan; and step-great-grandson, Benjamin. Allan is also remembered by his brothers and sisters: Lyle (Sandy), Glen (Marian), Dale (Jean), Murray (Velma), Joan, Gwen (Dave), Wade (Val), Keith (Vi), Sharon, and Brian (Linda). He was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Jean McKinney; stepmother, Mabel McKinney; brothers-in-law: John McAllister, Peter Cornelssen and Ron Prier. He continued to be an inspiration and role model to his family right up until his passing at Chez Nous on Sunday, September 11th, 2016. Allan was devoted to his family and community throughout his entire life. He demonstrated a strong work ethic but still took time to volunteer with many organizations. He was member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and was a Moose Jaw Warriors season ticket holder for many years, not to mention a long-time fan of the Toronto Blues Jays, Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Eskimos. Allan joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1955 when he was 19 years old and in 1956 he was posted to Germany. He retuned to Canada on a posting to Ottawa where he meet Jean, they were posted to Moose Jaw where he spent the balance of his military career. Allan was very proud to have spent over 23 years serving his country. After retiring from the military, Allan worked as a Senior Operator at the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant for over 21 years. He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed hunting deer, moose, pheasants and prairie chickens. A special thanks to Dr. Michelle Ferguson at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic in Regina, and a very special thanks with great appreciation to all of the staff at Chez Nous in Moose Jaw. A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held on Friday, September 16th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Dave Foley officiating. Legion Rites will be conducted by Dan MacAuley of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59. Donations graciously accepted to the Royal Canadian Poppy Fund, 268 High St W, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1S8 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, Unit 26 – 1738 Quebec Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9.
