Allan Robert McGillivray
March 30th, 1920 – December 5th, 2016
It is with great sadness that the family of Allan McGillivray announce his passing at the Central Butte Regency Hospital on December 5th, 2016 at the age of 96 years. He was predeceased by his parents John and Lulu McGillivray, his sisters Gladys Berry, Norma McIntyre and Betty Barber. He will be forever remembered by Betty his wife of 69 years; his sisters: Alice (Art) Cedergren, Irene Berry, Dona (Kevin) O’Callahan; his son Jim (Kathy) McGillivray; his daughters: Janet (John) Melnyk, Kathy (Bob) Burnyeat, Dona (Tom) Gaynor as well as six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Al was born, raised and attended school in the Central Butte area. He left the family farm in November of 1941 to join the RCAF. He trained and served as a navigator in the 158 Bomber Squadron based in Lissett, England. His service ended in July of 1945 after enduring fourteen months as a prisoner of war in Germany. Al returned to the farm and then attended the University of Saskatchewan graduating from the School of Agriculture in 1947. He married his wife Betty (nee: Banda) in June of 1947 and together actively farmed and raised their family until they retired in 1980. As per their wishes there will be no funeral service. A memorial service for immediate and extended family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Butte and District Health Care Foundation Inc.
