GERTRUDE CLARA MCCARTNEY

February 10th, 1927 – January 4th, 2024

Gertrude Clara McCartney at the age of 96 years, went home to Jesus peacefully on Thursday, January 4th, 2024.  “Trudy” passed on with her loved ones by her side at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

She was predeceased by her husband, Earle McCartney; parents, Mike and Catherine Thul; brothers: Gene, Ray, and Gordon; sisters-in-law, Maxine and Beatrice; special cousin, Agnes Spasoff and her husband Gil; and stepson, Greg McCartney.  Trudy will be lovingly remembered by her son, Brent (Lisa) and their two sons Chad and Tyler; and stepsons, Wayne (Sue) McCartney and Garth McCartney.

Trudy was born in Tuxford, SK and raised on the farm in Marquis, SK where she attended grade school.  Characterized by determination and a sense of independence, Trudy went on to attend business college in Moose Jaw.  This led to a career with the Canadian Government Elevators which proudly lasted 33 years and a pension plan that continued “just a speck” longer.  Earle and Trudy were married in 1959 and their son Brent was born in 1964.  They built the service station north of Moose Jaw where they lived until moving to their home on Laurier Street in 1986.

Family functions always seemed to draw out the crib board which she enjoyed so much with her brothers, many nieces and nephews, or anyone else willing to risk a quarter or two.  When her grandchildren were able to hold six cards in their hands, she ensured that they learned the game and learned it well!  She cherished the many friendships over the years through work, the neighborhood in Moose Jaw, her time at Park Avenue, and her newest friends at West Park.  Trudy had a curious mind, big heart, and a precious gift that made you feel special when you were with her.  You were all her favorite.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Reverend Felipe Faustino will officiate and interment will take place at a later date in Rosedale Cemetery.  Those not able to attend may view the service virtually by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Cara Ashworth Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I first met Trudy when i was teaching at the hair school here in town, I went to her home a few times to do her hair, she became more than a client, she became a friend. I will miss her dearly.

Grandma Trudy was the kindest woman with a great sense of humor! One of us was always being a “cheeky monkey” and making her laugh. She always had extra hugs to give at the end of a visit which was so appreciated. I’m so comforted knowing she is reunited with Grandpa Earle. ❤️

My dear, sweet Aunt Trudy ~ How can I ever begin to thank you for everything you have done for me since I first met you and Uncle Earle. Thank you for all the fabulous laughs! Your energy, optimism, fabulous sense of humour and zest for life will always inspire me. Your wise words and genuine kindness will be treasured always. Our delightful escapades will remain in my heart forever. A smile will come to my face and tears will come to my eyes every time I admire the beauty of the rose. Thanks for being dear, sweet you.

My most sincere condolences to Brent, Lisa, Chad and Tyler. How blessed you were to have had Trudy in your lives. Sympathies to all of Trudy’s

I am so sorry for your loss. Trudy was one of my favourite foot care clients (for many years) and I am going to really miss her. We had such great visits together and we talked about everything under the sun. She was so proud of her family. Trudy positively beamed when she spoke of you. I was unable to attend her service but my thoughts and prayers were with her and you. Trudy’s passing will leave a hole in many lives. Sincere condolences.
