Michaela Matwe
On Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014, Michaela Matwe passed away peacefully, with loving family and friends by her side, at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg at the age of 59 years. On August 17th, 1954 a bundle of pure love was gifted to Tony and Katherine Matwe for safe keeping. God’s “Angel on Earth” grew up on the family farm in the Pine Lake district in the Province of Saskatchewan. Michaela helped out on the family farm with gathering eggs, tending to the chickens, cuddling the kittens and romping around the farm with the family dog. She had an incredible ear for music and upon hearing a song or melody she enjoyed, she could play it on the piano. She enjoyed many instruments. Michaela also loved to draw and color meticulously. She loved pretty things. She also loved to play cards (her rules). Michaela learned to embroider and knit very easily and soon knitted innumerable afghans for family and friends. The family moved from the farm to Dauphin, Manitoba where Michaela made many new friends, both young and old. Never asking anything in return, she spread her smile, her gentleness and unceasing love upon everyone who met her. Very early in life Michaela experienced a special relationship with Jesus and His Mother Mary. In subsequent years she accompanied her mother to the Seniors Tower, linked to Holy Family Personal Care Home in Winnipeg and enjoyed a number of years there. As time progressed and she needed additional assistance, she relocated to the Personal Care Home. As the years passed and health issues reduced her mobility, Michaela never complained but sought to comfort others. Special thanks to Drs. Andrea and Terry Babick, and Staff of 2-A, for their compassion and love. She was predeceased by her father, Tony; her infant brothers: Michael, Mark and John Volodymyr; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Michaela is survived by her mother, Katherine of Winnipeg; sister, Deanna (Gerry) Stinson of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; her brother, Basil Matwe of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; her sister, Sister Theresa Matwe SSMI of Winnipeg, Manitoba; her niece, Michelle Stinson of Kirkland Lake, Ontario; as well as her grand-nephews: Tyler, Jordan, Austin and Nicholas of Kirkland Lake.
