Dorothy Marzolf
Dorothy Marzolf aged 90 years of Central Butte, SK, passed away on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 in Regency Manor. She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Andrew Lasota; siblings: Alex, Andrew, and Helen; and son, James. Dorothy is survived by her children: Helen (Tim), Graham (Shelley), John (Kathleen), Vernon, Laurel (Doug), Donna, David (Geri-Lynn), and Mitchell (Niki); as well her grandchildren: Maya, Seth, Parker, Taylor, Calsy, Alexis, and Sophia.
Dorothy grew up on her parents’ farm near Jefferson School where she completed her Grade 10. She then attended Sion Academy for grades 11 and 12, followed by a year of Normal School, after which she taught grades 1 to 8 at Bishop’s Hill School.
Dorothy married Ed Marzolf in 1952, and they raised 9 children and built a mixed farming operation. She managed an active household – bookkeeping, gardening, raising chickens, and yard work. Dorothy was active in the community, volunteering with the CWL, Pine Lake Community Club, and at the rink in Central Butte. She drove kids to hockey, fast ball, basketball, curling, and volleyball. Dorothy was a farmer, teacher, great cook, scrabble demon, and confidante, but her main occupation was as “Mom” for over 70 years!
Thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at the Dr. F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their superb care, and to the staff at the Regency Manor in Central Butte. As well, special thanks to honorary family member Fred Shopa.

To all of your family and friends who cherish memories, strength to you in your grief.
Lots of memories of this amazing woman. Speak of her often and keep all the happy memories alive.
Helen, and the entire Marzolf family,so sorry to hear about your loss.Sympathy to your families.
Our family’s deepest condolences on the passing of Dorothy. Being your neighbors for many years in the valley brought back many memories of matriarch who did everything she could to support her family. In reminiscing, we recall her being a good friend who had a busy household and a lot hats to wear. She often found humor and would have a good laugh with the antics that took place on the farm. Our parents, Margaret and Jake, were saddened to hear the news, but were glad to have had a good visit with Dorothy on their 70th wedding anniversary a couple of years ago. May your memories of your mother help you to find comfort and joy in a life well lived.
Heartfelt sympathy to your family. I know you will miss your Mom and Grandma. It was a pleasure to see Dorothy at Jake and Margaret’s anniversary after so many years. We had a short but very good visit. She was a remarkable woman. Cherish her memory.
I was saddened to hear of Dorothy’s recent passing and regret that I will not be able to attend the service in person. I hope to be able to attend online and would like to express my sincere condolences to the Marzolf family.
Our deepest sympathies Mitch, Niki, Maya and to Dorothy’s entire family. So sad to hear of your wonderful moms passing. Dorothy was definitely a great cook. Her buns and bread sandwiches were fantastic and always a great trade with you Mitch when I was lucky enough to have KFC. Cherish all the memories and may they bring you and your family comfort now and in the days to come. Sorry we could not attend in person. Please know, we are thinking of you all.
I am sending my deepest sympathies to the family. It was a sad day when I found out about Dorothy’s recent passing. I can honestly say that one of my favourite days was spending Boxing Day with Dorothy and Ed and their family. The food was delicious and the games, especially the shinny games on the ice were always lots of fun!
Sending condolences to all who felt the love and goodness that Aunt Dorthy invested in countless friends, family, and neighbours. We were fortunate to be able to attend the service online, and we are thankful to all who prepared and presented, sharing such inspiring and poignant glimpses of Dorothy’s life. May the love (including her recipes) she shared live on and grow in all who were blessed to know her.
