Elsie Martynook
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elsie Martynook, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29th, 2013 at the age of 90 years. Elsie was born on July 26th, 1923 to parents Tom and Anne Mayson, both of whom had immigrated to Canada from England. She met and married Mike Martynook at Crestwyn, SK and they had two children, Roger and Brian. Although Elsie remained at home to care for the family home and raise their children, she still found time to work with Mike to build a successful family business, MM Construction, which ran continuously for 51 years until its operations ceased in 2012. Elsie was active in her community and enjoyed volunteering with community associations like Meals on Wheels and the Moose Jaw Warrior Booster Club. She was also active in the Lions Club. After losing her husband in 1984, Elsie opened her home to billet young Moose Jaw Warrior hockey players for 10 years. It’s been said many times that the lunches Elsie would pack for the hockey “road trips” were the envy of the other players on the bus and there was always a lot of banter back and forth between the players to see what Elsie had packed for her billet. She was an avid hockey fan and held a season ticket for the Moose Jaw Warriors for 28 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Mike Martynook and her sister, Anne Hopwood. Elsie is survived by her sons, Roger (Carol) Martynook and Brian (Trish) Martynook; 7 grandsons; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Mayson; and many nieces and nephews. A Private Family Graveside will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director 306-693-4550.
