Gordon Edward “Marty” Martell
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marty Martell on Friday, January 10th, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a kind, gentle, loving soul who would do anything for anyone. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Gordon and Ethel, sister Helen, son John Gregory and parents in law, John and Joyce. Marty is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen, son David (Cheryl), son Kevin (Crystal), grandchildren Shea (Jayme) and Ryan, and many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Marty held his family dear to his heart. There were many journeys together across Canada as a part of his 25 year service with the Royal Canadian Air Force. The family settled in Moose Jaw where Marty retired from the Air Force in 1980 and again in 2001 from his second career of 20 years with Kalium Potash Security. Marty loved Moose Jaw and the prairies and always maintained a special place in his heart forthe maritimes, having been born and raised in Halifax, N.S. His wife Kathleen’s family, the Milnthorps, were all in Saskatchewan which made the choice to settle in Moose Jaw an easy one. Her family was his family. Having his grandchildren grow up in Moose Jaw was especially fulfilling. He found immense joy in the countless volunteer hours he spent with the Royal Canadian Legion where he was presented a Life Membership. He loved to bust a move, play cards, snooker and horseshoes, tinker on his cars and share his quick wit and sense of humour with everyone he met. He will be deeply missed and will remain forever in our hearts. “Our heartfelt thanks are extended for the precious care received by the Palliative Home Care team.” A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 pm on Wednesday, January 15th, 2014, at the Royal Canadian Legion, 268 High St. West in Moose Jaw. All friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Marty may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59 Poppy Fund, 268 High St. West, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1S8. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550.
