Jacob Emmanuel
Jacob Emmanuel, age 95 years of Moose Jaw, Sk., passed away on Friday, August 31st, 2012 at Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Jacob was born to Adolf Rudolf Maier and Amalia Julia Maier(nee Nagel), he was born the eighth child of fourteen children on April 3rd , 1917 in Balgonie, Sk. Jacob was raised on a farm near Bayard, Sk., where he married Eileen Cora Thieson on April 3rd, 1945. He and Eileen remained on the farm and had their four children Marvin, Grant, Jacqueline and Rodney on that same family homestead. Jacob moved his family into Moose Jaw, December of 1956, where he has resided till his passing. He worked at the Moose Jaw Providence Hospital from 1956 until he retired on May 1st, 1982. He loved all sports and spent thirty years as timekeeper at the Moose Jaw Civic Centre for the Junior Hockey Club. After retiring from the Providence Hospital he took on work at the Bank of Montreal, South Hill Branch, where he worked as night janitor until the age of 81 years on June 5th, 1998. He also worked at Church of Our Lady as a volunteer, sitting on committees, running bingo and being treasurer. Jacob is survived by one sister Victoria Fairhart of Oshawa, On, his loving children Marvin (Debbie Lougheed) of Moose Jaw, Grant of Moose Jaw, Jacqueline (Dennis) Kolesar of DeWinton, Ab, and Rodney (Deb) of Moose Jaw; loving grandchildren Tania Haberlack (Justin Dolan)of Okotoks, Ab, Clinton and Cassidy Maier of Moose Jaw and great grandson Cole Haberlack of Okotoks, Ab. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews. Jacob is predeceased by his mother Amalia Maier (nee Nagel), Father Adolf Maier, brothers Adolf, Joseph, Wilfred, Leo, Peter, Arthur and Arnold, sisters Anna, Rose, Tinna, Mary, and Loretta. Also predeceased by his wife of fifty seven years Eileen Cora Thieson. He also lost his dear friend Emma Folk of Moose Jaw on February 17th, 2012. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff of the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 5th, 2012 at 11:00 am in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Father Carlos Jimenez will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery.
